Belated Shameless Gaming Month 2012 Final Roundup

So, shameless gaming month for 2012 has well and truly gone. The question for me, though, is how did I go in the end?

Overall I think I did well, and certainly a lot better than last year! I managed to complete Explodemon, platinum/100% Sega Mega Drive Ultimate Collection, finished Phantasy Star 2 on the Sega Ages 2500 release in Easy mode and had a crack at finishing Monster World 4 on the PS3. I ended up getting a quarter of the way through the latter before the end of the month, so unfortunately I didn’t manage to finish everything in July, but I did 100% Monster World 4 by the end of the first week in August, so I think that’s pretty good by my standards 🙂

Not sure what I’ll be working on next year, but I found this was a great excuse to funnel my time into some gaming and get me back into the groove of making time to play games, rather than just write about them 🙂

Shameless Gaming Month achievement!

So, Trjn started this whole Shameless Gaming Month for July 2011 (I heard it through the grapevine on another forum, and you may have heard it elsewhere too), and I thought I’d get involved. I think I might have missed the point, as my goal was to finish… Wonder Boy in Monster World on the Sega Mega Drive, which was released in 1992 😛

On the upside, I actually finished it last weekend 🙂 And with all the hearts to boot!

On the downside, I think my effort counts as cheating, as I started playing it at the end of June.

But still, I wanted to contribute to the global effort in some way! Expect a review at some stage too.

Sega announces Monster World IV is getting an English release!

Read this over at Silicon Era – Sega have announced they’re going back and translating Monster World IV, previously only available in Japanese (though a fan translation exists that can be patched to the Japanese version), and are releasing it on Wii, PSN and possibly XBLA.

This is phenomenal news given the age of the game and the perceived lack of mainstream interest. This is is the stuff of fanboy dreams and legends, and it is amazing to see Sega leading the way.

From here, my only hope is that they get M2 to develop the emulator for the PS3/XB360, as previous emulators have been absolutely terrible on the machine in comparison to M2’s work on Nintendo’s Virtual Console and the Sega Ages collections on the PS2.

You can check out the full release over at the Sega Europe blog.
