The Last Gamer’s awesome games room tour

The latest blog is up, and it includes a great tour of an arcade with a huge slew of amazing Sega dedicated cabs and a couple of uprights. I don’t have the space or cash to amass such an excellent collection of games, and I certainly don’t have Joel’s experience with maintaining these classic machines.

Thankfully, I can enjoy the view and be amazed at a fellow gamer’s fandom for classic retro games.

Last Gamer reviews the Saturn

Yes it’s a little late, but at least I got here :)

Fellow Australian Sega enthusiast The Last Gamer took some time a few weeks back to give some love to the Saturn, including popping the top to show the insides of his Japanese launch system.

There’s always room on this blog for Sega fanboys, so check it out:

… and if you’re interested, here’s the original post from his website.

The Last Gamer – essential viewing and reading

Just thought I’d plug a fellow gamer’s amazing series of videos and the recently announced website, Last Gamer.

The first video I saw by Joel was his Afterburner review, where he took us through the various ports of Afterburner over the years, and then finishes off with the amazing Afterburner 2 DX cab. But don’t take my word for it, take his:

His latest round of videos have documented, from start to finish, the building and move-in of his new console games room, and the thing is magnificent to behold! And because I’m such a nice guy, here they are in order:

Oh, and be sure to checkout the Q&A session for a great story about his early days running an import store and an amazing phone call with Capcom Japan :)

Well done on the amazing job done Joel, and congrats on getting the website up! Looking forward to the impending video, as it’s going to involve what might be my favourite console – the Saturn ;)

Retro Core is back!

Sure, it’s old by now, but I had to share my enthusiasm – favourite British ex-pat Yakumo has started doing mini episodes of Retro Core for 2011. I’ve waxed lyrical over my love for his work in the past, so it’s great to see him squeeze in some new videos for 2011. They’re only small episodes now with a narrower focus on the Saturn (hence the new title, “Retro Core SS”), but it’s all good as far as I’m concerned.

You can check out the back catalogue as well as the new episodes at the Retro Core page.

While you’re over there, you should check out the rest of Segagaga Domain, as it’s packed with videos, writeups, scans and retro gaming guides for Japan.

Retro Core Summer Special 2010 – coming in August!

I was just over at Segagaga Domain and read that Yakumo’s working on a 2010 follow-up to the excellent 2009 summer special he put together! This make me very excitied, as I’ve been a fan since discovering the show shortly after getting broadband back in… 2005 or 2006. I’ve waxed lyrical about Retro Core before, and it’s awesome to see another special on the way :)

Expect a review once it’s out :)
